Malfoy, go fetch me Robards from the DMLE and tell him to bring the file on Hornby. Boot, fetch me her file from the Department of Education.

To those of you who can read this, any and all information any of you can give me on Hortense Hornby would be appreciated, especially anything that may be pertinent to her death. I apologise if this is insensitive to some of you who may have been her friend, but we do not want someone out there dishonouring her name.

Hortense was a Slytherin in my year and she really did fancy Grayson and she liked to bake. She had blonde hair and she was a half-blood. She was sort of stupid sometimes but we were friends. She got upset at the end of when we were at Hogwarts and stopped talking to a bunch of us, and then she went to the battle and she died. She had sent us all sorts of letters and things about her dying, too. Do you think they were fake?

I'm Augustus Urquhart, by the by.

Then what is it? Hortense is not someone anyone would want to pretend to be, I can tell you that!

I don't know everything about ghosts, but there are some like poltergeists who are able to touch things (Peeves, for instance) but I can't recall anything in books about ghosts with unfinished business being able to use magic or touch things.

[info]attackbirds

How would they possess the Dictaquill in the first place? It is a far more plausible explanation that someone might have gotten her journal, read her entries, and used the information they have to confuse everyone else. Talking like this about a deceased person is just disrespectful, in my opinion.

To confuse us, most probably. There are people who aren't happy with the peace, and they'd stoop this low to do such a thing.

Hello, Augustus.

This is all very curious. What sorts of things did these letters say?

I don't know, it was mostly sentimental stuff about us being friends. Nothing very interesting. But I thought it was really weird she had these letters written for if she died at the time, and now it seems even more weird.

Mine was not sentimental. Mine threatened me and told me she'd do this if I, um, did something, which I did, and almost immediately after I did what she told me not to this happened and I AM A LITTLE SCARED. Thank you for your time.

Also can I please switch departments, I do not want to further upset a possibly restless spirit.

If you wouldn't mind, would you share this note with the DMLE? You may deliver it to Gawain Robards at your earliest convenience.

Hortense died at the Final Battle. She was seventeen and her parents are Alec and Maggie. She has an older brother Max and a baby sister Prudence.

She was my girlfr ? We were close.

I saw her body. Touched her hand and everything. I was at her funeral, I know she's dead.

And yes, there were letters, but they were more like "If I die, these are the very personal things I am telling you that I couldn't while I was alive". At least, mine was.

We showed up late, as part of the reinforcements with Professor Slughorn. I was split from her almost immediately after arriving at the Battle.

Arthur and Percy Weasley brought her to the Great Hall, afterward, if I recall correctly. I didn't get to see her until later.

She was killed with the Killing Curse, but was hurt before that as well.

sweet Helga

It... changes. It's hard to describe. I lost a lot of good friends in the last war, and I still miss them more than I can put into words, but the saying "time heals all wounds" does ring true. You just get used to it.

She was nice even if she could be sort of scary when she was angry, but I didn't know her very well, really. She was best friends with Ruby and mostly talked to the Slytherins.

She isn't really back, is she? What if Ioan

I didn't really know her so I don't think any of this will be helpful, but I did talk to her a little bit so I know a few things. She wished that she wasn't in Slytherin I think because the girls in her dorm were mean to her. She didn't like sleeping there. And sometimes she had trouble sleeping so I told her my trick about counting sheep backwards, only I don't know if it ever worked for her.

That's all I can remember.
